Winter Storm Grayson Hits the Outer Banks, NC
Winter Storm Grayson hit the Outer Banks last night packing winds in the 40-50+ range. Some recorded gusts of up to 74 mph at Jennette's Pier in Nags Head, NC. Most of the area North of Oregon Inlet got 3+ inches which is nothing compared to what states north of NC got. With wind comes swell. The forecast model registered surf in the 9+ feet range with over a 10 second period. Needless to say, that doesn't stop a few from getting their ice cream headache on. Below are photos taken by Jenni Koontz of Epic Shutter Photography who was down in Avon and Buxton capturing a very different picture from what our summertime tourists are used to seeing. From Epic Shutter: January 4, 2018 Winter Storm Grayson hit Cape Hatteras National Seashore. My daughter and I went on an adventure through Avon and Buxton this morning. I was pretty surprised to see some swell at high tide and a few guys on it at the lighthouse. They sure looked stoked to be chasing snow barrels. South end Avon was beachless as the tide came over the dunes this morning. Part of the road near Canadian Hole was ripped out by the sound last night. The roads are still icy be safe if you have to venture out.
