Support Wilmington at the Surfalorus Film Festival September 20-22
After dealing with a direct hit from Hurricane Florence, the film curators from Cucalorus Film Festival in Wilmington, NC will travel to the Outer Banks for the 7th Annual Surfalorus Film Festival September 20-22.
“The show must go on,” said Dan Brawley, Chief Instigating Officer at Cucalorus. “I told my team here in Wilmington this morning that film festivals are what we do and this will help us get a sense of normalcy back. We’ve mapped ways to bypass flooded roads to make our way to the Outer Banks and are looking forward to showcasing some of this year’s best surf films and seeing our friends on the Outer Banks.”
The free film festival will combine stellar surf films, live music, surf craft, food, drinks, shapers, surf-inspired art, and a poi fire performance into three evenings of family-friendly fun.
Surfalorus will be accepting donations for Wilmington at each screening.
The screenings will be held at Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head (September 20), Dare County Arts Council in Manteo (September 21), and the backyard of the Outer Banks Brewing Station in Kill Devil Hills (September 22). The doors open at 6:30pm and films begin at 7pm.
To view the full slate of films that will be shown throughout the event, visit Surfalorus.com.
Besides amazing local, regional and national films, each evening will also celebrate surf art and culture. The opening night at Jennette’s Pier will feature a presentation of filmmaker awards, with Cucalorus insiders noting that some Outer Banks filmmakers will be receiving awards. Friday night will highlight the evolution of surf craft with a beautifully curated surfboard exhibit providing the perfect backdrop for the great collection of short films that will be screened. Saturday night will conclude with films under the stars, a poi fire performance by Panda Daniels and the Surfalorus after party featuring the Cashmere Jungle Lords.
“Come shake off the cabin fever and enjoy some great, free entertainment,” said Dare County Arts Council’s Executive Director Chris Sawin. “There are some really cool additions to Surfalorus this year, and we are so happy our friends down at the Cucalorus Film Festival headquarters in Wilmington are willing and able to come up to the Outer Banks to help us put on this fun film festival.”
