25th Annual Surfrider 1-Mile Paddle Race – Photo Gallery
It’s hard to believe that 25 years ago the very first Surfrider, Outer Banks Chapter Paddle Race was born. Over the years, this event has grown into not only the best fundraiser for the local Surfrider chapter, but a HUGE community event bringing all kinds of paddlers, spectators, volunteers, sponsors and the like together.
The paddle race was postponed to the following weekend due to a never-ending monsoon (and high bacteria count in the water). The race went down on Saturday, August 4th, 2018 with sunny skies, small glassy surf conditions and water temps in the mid to upper 60’s. The event even dodged a stray thunderstorm near the end…. successfully completing the 25th race. Paddlers of all shapes, ages and sizes showed up to compete. Some were just looking for a joy paddle while others were in-it-to-win-it. Tons of raffle tickets were also sold to help raise money for Dare County high school student scholarships. All-in-all, a SUCCESS. We’re already looking forward to #26!
