Surfing for Autism – Saturday, August 9-11, 2018

The mission of Surfing for Autism is to offer individuals and families impacted by Autism Spectrum Disorder a supportive environment to connect and share by creating opportunities to experience the therapeutic benefits of surfing. Through these opportunities, Surfing for Autism is also creating a greater awareness and a deeper understanding of ASD within the community. Schedule of Events:

Thursday, August 9: NC Aquarium Open House

5:00pm-7:00pm – Free sensory sensitive night at the nc aquarium for registered families and volunteers.

Friday, August 10: Meet & Greet

5:30pm-7:30pm – Merchandise available for purchase. 5:30pm-6:15pm – Dinner and mingling. 6:15pm-6:45pm – Presentations, social story, and general housekeeping. 6:45pm-7:30pm – Siblings of the person with autism gets a fishing lesson before fishing. 6:45pm-7:30pm – Individuals with autism head to the beach to practice surfing skills in the sand.

Saturday, August 11: Surfing for Autism Event

Head over to Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head, NC to catch the 2018 Surfing for Autism event this Saturday. The surfing event begins first thing Saturday morning. Children will surf in assigned heats but activities for the entire family are available on-site throughout the event. A boxed lunch is provided. 8:30am-2:00pm: Merchandise available for purchase. 9:00am-1:00pm: Individuals with autism go surfing. 1:00pm-2:00pm: Lunch for volunteers, family, and individuals with autism.
