notes

Saturday: This afternoon the swell is dropping and the dominant swells are now out of the Southeast at 7ft with surf breaking head high and bigger. Strong offshore winds are blowing the waves down significantly in size and keeping them mostly unrideable on the outside breaks. Inside breaks are holding rideable waves. There still appears to be a lot of drift and conditions are still not very good for surfing. Hanna will be moving out quickly and winds will also be dropping off through the night tonight. Late afternoon will show some potential for good surf, but check back tomorrow morning for some definite improvements in the surf. Thanks for checking obxsurfinfo.com.

NEW RODANTHE CAMERA
The Rodanthe cam is back up on a temporary view. We are still experiencing some technical difficulties, but we are able to provide limited functionality. Thanks for your patience,

forecast

Thursday: Hanna has intensified to winds at 70mph, just shy of hurricane status. Hanna is building Southeast swell again as it moves to the Northwest. Unfortunately, large increases in swell will be met with large increase in onshore winds this week. Expect weather to get pretty bad Friday afternoon and all day Saturday. Hurricane Ike has reached category 4 status and is following the same path Hanna followed a week ago. Swell from Ike is expected to reach the Outer Banks by Monday. No cut off in surf is expected any time in the near future. Definitely keep checking back for updates.

Disclaimer: All forecasts are based on weather data provided from multiple sources and are subject to change. When the weather changes, the surf changes. There is also a larger margin of error in the extended forecast. Please keep this in mind when planning your next surf trip. Forecasts are updated daily to catch any significant changes in the weather pattern.  Swell Direction and Swell Size are given for the open ocean within 30 miles of all Outer Banks beaches including the South facing beaches of Frisco.  Surf size is based on conditions specifically for Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk.  Remeber, swell direction may cause a large variation in surf size from one beach to the next.
