Local Art: “Pinta Manta Exhibit”

New Collaborative Work by Elena Johnston & William Cashion + New Work by Travis Fowler
Pinta Manta will feature large collaborative paintings and neons by Baltimore artists Elena Johnston and William Cashion. Johnston, who holds a BFA & MA from Maryland Institute College of Art, is also an art educator & vintage clothing aficionado. Cashion, an ECU alum with a BFA in painting, is a native of Wendell, NC and is also known as bassist & co-founder of post-wave dance band Future Islands. Outer Banks local Travis Fowler will also exhibit new mixed media in Pinta Manta. Through balancing control with spontaneity Travis’ work explores cause and effect, resulting in vibrating compositions of lines moving through space across imaginary contours. The wavelike compositions, accented with metal leaf, seem to morph as the piece is viewed from various vantage points and light sources, allowing the work to offer the viewer an unpredictable visual experience.
