Recreational Fishing Report (Week Ending 11/14/15)
OCEAN: Offshore fishing was limited until mid week due to rough sea’s, when anglers out of the Hatteras marinas finally got to go they had a field day on king mackerel with citation size specimens caught by almost everyone targeting them. High numbers of blackfin tuna have been caught on a regular basis along with a few dolphin, wahoo, and atlantic bonito. North beach marinas had to wait for favorable conditions also, catches were low- moderate but diverse with dolphin, wahoo, little tunny, atlantic bonito, and both blackfin & yellowfin tuna. Inshore success in Hatteras was very good indeed with limits of keeper red drum on most outings along with plenty of both under & over size ones, flounder, spotted seatrout, and a few Spanish mackerel were also reported.
INLETS/SOUNDS/BAYS: Hatteras anglers have been catching red drum in the sound also but keeper ratios have been less than favorable, spotted seatrout and flounder have been caught on a much improved basis- along with a few spanish mackerel also. North beach marinas offered anglers some great striped bass fishing with limits in most cases along with plenty of throw-backs. Sheepshead, little tunny, and spotted seatrout were also caught in low-moderate amounts.
PIERS/SHORE: The beaches have been packed with anglers targeting red drum-especially from Avon southward to Ocracoke, success has been mostly dependent on when you are there with some days producing high numbers of giant over slot specimens while other days reported no fish at all. Striped bass have been caught in the extreme North beach area from the Virginia border southward to Southern Shores. Bluefish, black drum, and spotted seatrout have been caught on fairly consistent basis from North to South along with a host of others in low amounts including flounder, weakfish, Spanish mackerel, puffer, black drum, pigfish, pinfish, hake, skates & stingrays.
