Surf Contest: Coastal Edge East Coast Surfing Championships 8/19 – 8/25/2013
ECSC is North America’s Oldest Running Surfing Competition, the second oldest continuously-run surfing contest in the world, and is celebrating its 51st year this summer. Virginia Beach will play host to more than 100 of the world’s top professional surfers, male and female, and an estimated 300 amateur surfers who will be coming to shred it up at the Oceanfront and compete for combined cash prizes.
ECSC is more than just surfing and has been held annually in VA beach since 1963! Dozens of people also take part in other competitions including skimboarding, volleyball, an oceanfront 5K run, a swimsuit competition, and skateboarding. Live bands including The Silversun Pickups, Tomorrow’s Bad Seeds, and Jimmy’s Chicken Shack will be performing for free on an oceanfront stage throughout the weekend. A cost is involved to participate in competitions, but all activities are free and open to the public. So make sure you head out next week and get in on all the action!
